Former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the woman with the world’s largest shoe collection. A far cry from the average selection of trainers and safety footwear, her extravagant collection was said to include approximately 2 700 pairs of shoes. Mrs Marcos and her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos, fled the Philippines in 1986, but she later returned from exile years later and opened a museum displaying the extensive shoe collection she had left behind. “They went into my closets looking for skeletons, but all they found were beautiful shoes,” said the former First Lady when the museum opened.
If you think that’s impressive, it seems that Anna Dello Russo, editor of Japanese Vogue, has overtaken Imelda Marcos as the owner of the largest private shoe collection in the world. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Dello Russo revealed that she has more than 4 000 pairs in her possession!
“I am obsessed with shoes” says Dello Russo, who owns two flats – living in one and storing her staggering collection of clothing and shoes in the other.
The famous fashionista describes her style as “maximalist” and jokes that it takes her “6 months” to get dressed! Even as a child and teenager, she says she would happily forgo practical safety clothing for the latest labels.
Not only is Anna Dello Russo the owner of the biggest shoe collection in the world, she is a celebrated blogger and has amassed 31 265 followers on Twitter. She also recently released her own fragrance, packaged in a golden stiletto-shaped bottle (pictured above).
The average celebrity shoe collection is sure to consist of hundreds, even thousands of pairs – but it looks like no fashionista out there can yet challenge Anna Dello Russo’s new title as the “Queen of Shoes”!
